One can divide integrated circuit design into several different phases where in the first one gets an idea of what is needed by making simple mathematical models. In the second stage one simulates and in the third phase one proceeds with the layout (mask) design. We have published books highlighting  these various stages.

One of the key components in any design engineers arsenal are various kinds of software. There are simulators of various kinds and also layout analysis and extraction software among others. The inner workings of these algorithms can be hard to understand from just reading about them in a mathematical context. We have instead opted to present implementations of such algorithms in Python (for now) to give the working engineer a feel for their basic operation.
